GAYHEALTH.COM(tm) TO LAUNCH APRIL 15, 2000
GAY + HEALTH ON THE WEB: PRIVACY IS PARAMOUNT

SILICON ALLEY'S MEDIAPOLIS TO BUILD GROUND BREAKING SITE

NEW YORK CITY-GayHealth.com(tm), the world's first online health and wellness resource founded by lesbian and gay medical professionals, has tapped Web engineering company Mediapolis, inc. to build the site.

GayHealth.com(tm) will serve the lesbian and gay community in answering an unmet need for a confidential resource on sensitive yet vital subjects about physical and emotional health. The site, founded by two leaders in lesbian and gay health, Dr. Stephen E. Goldstone and Dr. Susan C. Ball, will launch on April 15 with news and feature stories, community forums, surveys, a store and one of the strongest privacy policies on the Web.

"We needed a Web site that could deliver plenty of content and features -- without compromising the privacy of our users," said Dr. Goldstone. "Based on their experience in both the healthcare and the lesbian and gay worlds, we chose Mediapolis."

Mediapolis has built and operates health-related websites for Duke University Medical Center (MenopausalHealth.com); Novartis (Transdermscop.com); SpineWire.com, an online spinal injury community; Medical Tribune (MedicalTribune.com); and American Druggist magazine's (AmericanDruggist.com). The company also built and operated online drugstore yourPharmacy.com for pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts, which sold the site to PlanetRx on the eve of its IPO last fall.

Mediapolis has built and operates lesbian and gay sites for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (www.glaad.org), Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund (www.lambdalegal.org), the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (www.glsen.org) and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund (www.victoryfund.org). In addition, Mediapolis owns and operates the award-winning gay news site Datalounge.com.

"We're combining the content and commerce management solutions of our health sites with the personality and community of our lesbian and gay sites," said Mediapolis principal Carl Pritzkat. "GayHealth.com(tm) will look and feel like no other health and wellness site on the Web."

GayHealth.com(tm) will use Mediapolis's Iowa(tm) software suite. Iowa(tm) will enable GayHealth.com(tm) doctors to publish in real time to the site using a standard Web browser without the need for HTML or programming staff. Iowa(tm) integrates the power of Apache, the Internet's most widely used Web server, with the robust PERL programming language to deliver the features that GayHealth.com(tm) will need without limiting the site's scalability.

GayHealth.com(tm) was founded in 1999 by the nation's top lesbian and gay medical professionals to serve the healthcare needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities worldwide.

Mediapolis (www.mediapolis.com) creates technology that simplifies the production of high profile, high performance websites. Mediapolis technology combines customized open code software with industry-standard hardware to create tools and feature modules easily deployed for any project. Since 1994, Mediapolis has built more than 100 sites for clients ranging from Fortune 50s to bootstrap startups.
