GEENA DAVIS LAUNCHES SITE CREATED BY MEDIAPOLIS LOS ANGELES -- Geena Davis today announced the launch of a Web site in conjunction with the Women's Sports Foundation to promote gender equality in school sports programs. The site, built by Manhattan-based Wed engineering firm Mediapolis, inc., provides visitors with tools they can use to advocate balanced programs in their schools. These tools include report cards for grading schools and local media and databases of elected officials to be contacted for lobbying. "We've created Geena Takes Aim to teach girls about their rights in sport and--if they're not being treated fairly--to lead them along the best path to create positive change," said Davis, a prominent film actress and noted amateur athlete. "I'm dedicated to making sure that every girl has the opportunity and encouragement to get in touch with her sports spirit." The site was built as an adjunct to the Women's Sports Foundation's Web site, womenssportsfoundation.org which presents a broad range of information about sports and fitness for women, as well as the people and issues that make them a vital part of American culture. Both the Foundation site and GeenaTakesAim.com were engineered by Mediapolis using its Iowa® content management system. Iowa makes it easier for editors of both sites to update information and deliver the types of features that their users need. Without any technical knowledge, editors can post articles and images, create polls and surveys and even create special sections for the sites. Iowa also enables the sites to handle large waves of traffic. "We built a software tool for Geena Takes Aim that gives complete content control to its editors so they can keep it completely in synch with its audience," said Mediapolis principal Carl Pritzkat. "But we also made sure that the site could handle the types of traffic volume that someone of Geena Davis's stature can generate." Mediapolis (www.mediapolis.com ) creates technology that simplifies the production of high profile, high performance Web sites. Since 1994, Mediapolis has used the Iowa® Software Suite to build more than 150 sites for clients including Sony Music, BMG Entertainment and Johnson & Johnson. Founded in 1974 by Billie Jean King, the Women's Sports Foundation is a charitable educational organization dedicated to increasing the participation of girls and women in sports and fitness and creating an educated public that supports gender equity in sport.
