VOLVO RELAUNCHES HEROES WEB SITE NEW YORK -- Volvo Cars of North America has relaunched its Volvo for Life Awards Web site after a successful first year and has added a new section of the Awards for Volvo employees. The Awards and their Web site were launched in 2002 to honor ordinary people who go above and beyond the call of duty to act with conscience, care and character to help others in need. Robert Young was awarded last year's Volvo for Life Award for his work with Native American communities. Chosen by a panel of celebrity judges including Hank Aaron, Paul Newman and Jane Goodall, Young received a new Volvo car every year for the rest of his life as part of the Award. The Volvo for Life Awards Web site gives users, whether consumers or Volvo employees, an easy way to nominate their friends, browse other nominations and look at extensive documentation of Volvo's long term commitment to the community values the Awards celebrate. The administrative side of the site is a sophisticated machine that automates the nomination review process, enabling different staff members to vet and produce the nominations. The Awards and the new site were conceived of and designed by Manhattan-based Fitzgerald, Brunetti, Inc. Productions ("FBI Productions"), who have a long history of work with Volvo. Manhattan-based Mediapolis, inc. engineered the original site as well as this year's updates, customizing its Iowa content management system to handle both the front-end display and back-end administrative functionality. "It's gratifying to work on the second year of these great awards because we get to see the flexibility of the tools we created for Volvo using our Iowa system," said Mediapolis principal Carl Pritzkat. "We were able to make a complete change in the look and functionality of the site with minimal effort." Created by Mediapolis, Iowa is a Web publishing environment that simplifies the creation and maintenance of large scale Web sites through the sophisticated integration of industry-standard hardware, operating systems and applications. Its unique database structures and template-driven presentation synchronize with software and hardware modules to make it easily scalable at typical Web site bottlenecks. Iowa has been built from the ground up to deliver high performance and high availability Web serving at a fraction of the cost of other systems. Mediapolis (www.mediapolis.com ) creates technology that simplifies the production of high profile, high performance Web sites. Since 1994, Mediapolis has used the Iowaš Software Suite to build more than 200 sites for clients including Sony Music, The New York Times, Johnson & Johnson and Volvo Cars.
