INTERNATIONAL JEWISH NEWS SERVICE LAUNCHES REDESIGNED SITE NEW YORK, NY -- JTA, the international Jewish news service, has redesigned its Web site. The site -- which gets about 250,000 unique visitors a month from more than 100 countries -- now offers blogs and multimedia content as well as a search engine that allows for easier site navigation. "In today's media environment, a Web site needs to do more than just provide the latest news," said Mark J. Joffe, JTA's executive editor and publisher. The revamped JTA.org site includes blogs written by JTA staffers and outside experts (on topics ranging from the Middle East to Jewish pop culture to inside-the-Beltway items), podcasts with JTA correspondents discussing issues in the news, galleries of images from JTA's photo service, resource lists, event calendars, links to related content from across the Web, reader feedback on JTA news articles, video clips from Israeli media partners, e-mail newsletters, and more. New York-based Mediapolis, inc., engineered the new site's software, which allows JTA staff to efficiently operate the site and track all of JTA's content development, from story assignment through editing and publishing. "An organization like JTA demands the perfect balance between control and efficiency," said Mediapolis principal Carl Pritzkat. "The volume of reporting and range of features they provide could easily swamp most organizations their size, but we were able to build them a set of software tools that delivers this range and volume to the high standards for which they are known." Established in 1917 JTA has correspondents in New York, Washington, Jerusalem, Moscow and 30 other cities around the globe who provide in-depth coverage of political, economic and social developments affecting Jews in North and South America, Israel, Europe, Africa and Australia. Throughout its history, JTA has established a reputation for journalistic integrity, outstanding reporting and insightful analysis. Over the years, the Jewish community has come to rely on JTA as the single most credible source of news and analysis available about events and issues of Jewish interest anywhere in the world. Headquartered in New York, JTA is a not-for-profit corporation governed by an independent Board of Directors. It has no allegiance to any specific branch of Judaism or political viewpoint. Mediapolis (www.mediapolis.com ) creates technology that simplifies the production of high profile, high performance Web sites. Since 1994, Mediapolis has created custom software solutions to build more than 220 sites for clients including Sony Music, The New York Times, Johnson & Johnson and Volvo Cars.
